In order to borrow a WiFi hotspot, patrons must be 16 years of age or older and have a Mulvane Public Library card (in good standing and independent of a guardian).  At the time of checkout, the borrowing patron must present his/her library card and photo ID.  Upon checkout, library staff will confirm, in the presence of the borrowing patron, that all items are present in the hotspot pack.  Then patron must read, acknowledge, and verbally agree to this document, which will be noted by staff on the patron’s account.

Only one hotspot may be borrowed per household at a time.  Overdue fines are $5.00 an hour or a day (dependent upon loan period).  Overdue hotspots will be deactivated within 24 hours after the due date.  Patrons are not permitted to return the hotspot to the Library’s book drop. Hotspots must be returned directly to the circulation desk.  The pack will not be checked in until all pieces are returned.  Hotspots are not eligible for renewals.

Replacement Fees:

– $50 for lost/stolen/damaged device

-$15 for lost/stolen/damaged power cord

-$8 for lost/stolen/damaged case

-Standard processing fees for missing cases and RFID tags apply.

The Library will accept holds on the hotspots.  You have 3 business days to come in and check out a hotspot pack once you have been notified the pack is ready.  If you do not pick up the hotspot in the allotted time, the pack will move to the next person in line.  The Library would be happy to add your name to the list again; however, it will be at the end of the hold queue.

By borrowing and initiating use of the Library’s hotspot, the user agrees to abide by the Library’s policies and rules, and agrees to hold the Library and its agents harmless from any and all claims, losses, damages, obligations, or liabilities, directly or indirectly, relating to the use of the Library’s hotspot and Internet access provided by the Library.  Deliberate altering of any files or modifying the configuration of Library-owned equipment is strictly prohibited.

Internet service relies on cell tower technology and coverage.  Service outside the continental United States is prohibited; any fees associated with use outside of this area will be the responsibility of the borrower. User experience can vary based on location.  The Library is not responsible for personal information shared over the Internet or for information or websites accessed.  The Library is not responsible for any liability, damages, or expense resulting from the use of the hotspot. A hotspot can provide internet access for up to 15 devices with an approximate range of 25 feet.

Hotspots must be kept in a temperature-controlled environment (not left in vehicles or in extreme temperatures).

Parents/guardians are responsible for the use of the hotspot by minors.

Unlawful use of the Internet or use that violates the Library’s Code of Conduct or Technology Use Policy is prohibited and may result in the loss of privileges. The Library prohibits the use of its devices for the display or downloading of pornographic or obscene materials.

Due to high demand, the Library reserves the right to limit patron checkout of the long-term devices to 3 times a year.

The Library reserves the right to suspend hotspot borrowing privileges if a patron is visibly rough or careless with the pack or consistently late with returns, in addition to fines, fees, or damages.
