5 Senses: Hearing
Happy Wednesday! Time for another Preschool Story Time post!
The sense of Hearing and the Letter “B”
Books:
Today’s theme was The Sense of Hearing! We read the books: The Listening Walk by Paul Showers and Dog’s Noisy Day by Emma Dodd. We talked about all the different sounds you can hear in the world around you and what makes those sounds.
Two other book suggestions to go along with the theme are: Mr. Brown Can Moo, Can You? By Dr. Seuss and Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear? By Bill Martin, Jr.
Songs:
This Is Me
This is me
From my head to my toes
I have two eyes and a little nose
I can clap my hands
And stomp my feet
From my head to my toes
I’m pretty neat
(To the tune of “The Bear Went Over the Mountain”)
My ears are made for hearing
My ears are made for hearing
My ears are made for hearing
So I can hear my world
Activities:
We talked about the letter B this week. We discussed what it looks like, how to draw it, what sounds it makes, and words that start with it. Here are some resources for you to try at home to continue the learning about the letter B.
Play with bubbles and buttons today! Try to make a meal all out of food that begins with B. Pull out all your toys that start with B to play with today.

We also talked about going on a Listening Walk. Go on a walk with your child. Don’t talk – just listen. Ask them before you leave to listen for as many different sounds as they can. After your walk or after a few minutes of silence (if your child has trouble sitting in silence for a while) ask your child what all they heard. What sounds did they hear? What do they think made those sounds?

Craft:
This week’s craft is a DIY Kazoo. You can swing by the library to pick up a craft pack or you can make one with supplies at home. You just need:
A toilet paper roll
Small square of wax paper
A rubber band
Something to decorate the toilet paper roll (paint, washi tape, markers, stickers, etc)
