5 Senses: Touch
Happy Wednesday friends!
The Sense of Touch and the Letter “E”
If you haven’t had a chance to watch our Preschool Story Time video, head over to our Facebook page and look for Preschool Story Time 09/09.
Books:
Today’s theme was the sense of touch! We read the books: Jane Brocket’s Clever Concepts Spiky, Slimy, Smooth and Tap the Magic Tree by Christie Matheson. We talked about different textures and the different words we can use to describe them. We also talked about how we use our hands for so many things – clapping, waving, grabbing, touching, picking things up, writing, etc.
Another fun book to read that is similar to Tap the Magic Tree with its interactive element is Press Here by Herve Tullet.
Songs:
This is Me
This is me
From my head to my toes
I have two eyes and a little nose
I can clap my hands
And stomp my feet
From my head to my toes
I’m pretty neat
(To the tune of “The Bear Went Over the Mountain”)
My hands are made for touching
My hands are made for touching
My hands are made for touching
So I can touch my world
Activities:
We talked about the letter “E” this week. We discussed what it looks like, how to draw it, what sound it makes, and words that start with it. Here are some activities to continue the learning about the letter E:
*Explore your backyard or neighborhood
*Make Elephant Toothpaste: http://preschoolpowolpackets.blogspot.com/2012/01/science-experiment-elephant-toothpaste.html
*Do an experiment
*Make an eruption: https://teaching2and3yearolds.com/simple-preschool-science-activity-makes-volcano/
*Play with eggs: https://premeditatedleftovers.com/naturally-frugal-mom/disappearing-egg-activity-kids/
*Exercise

*Learn about static Electricity: https://iheartcraftythings.com/static-electricity-butterfly-experiment.html
Craft:
This week’s craft is all about the sense of touch. You can stop by the library to pick up a kit to make your own Book of Touch. There are multiple items of different textures in the kit, and you can talk about the different items and what words your child would use to describe them. Then help your child glue the objects into their book. To continue the fun with this craft, go on a nature walk and have your child collect different items. Bring them back home and talk about the different items and what words they would use to describe them (or if you don’t want all those things in your house, you can have your child describe them on the walk and leave them where they found them!).
Look around your house if it’s too cold/wet to go on a walk outside and have your child find 5-10 different objects to describe. Have them group things that are similar. This works on multiple skills all at once 😉
