Leaves
Happy Friday everyone! I hope you’ve had a wonderful week enjoying the beautiful weather we’ve gotten!
Leaves
Today’s theme was all about leaves! Have you had a chance to go outside with your little ones and play in the leaves? There are so many fun activities to do with leaves – make sure to read all the way to the bottom to see some of them!
Books:
We read the books: There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves! By Lucille Colandro and Leaves by David Ezra Stein. “There Was an Old Lady” books are considered “Cumulative rhyme” where one verse or phrase is introduced at the beginning, and throughout the rest of the book, more and more phrases are added. There is also sequencing happening, where children can follow along and know what’s going to go next in the cumulative text. Leaves is all about a bear who is saddened by the leaves falling from the trees and tries to help put them back on, but learns that it’s not the same. He then experiences the different seasons and sees how the trees and leaves transform throughout the year and how beautiful it can be.
Songs:
Flannel – The Leave on the Tree
Tune: The wheels on the bus
The flowers on the tree are pink and white,
Pink and white, pink and white
The flowers on the tree are pink and white
All through the town.
The leaves on the tree are green and bright,
Green and bright, green and bright
The leaves on the tree are green and bright
All through the town.
The leaves on the tree are yellow and brown,
Yellow and brown, yellow and brown
The leaves on the tree are yellow and brown
All through the town.
The leaves on the tree are falling down,
Falling down, falling down
The leaves on the tree are falling down
All through the town.
The leaves on the tree make a crunching sound,
A crunching sound, a crunching sound
The leaves on the tree make a crunching sound
All through the town.
The children in the town jump up and down,
Up and down, up and down
The children in the town jump up and down
All through the town.

Craft:
The craft this week is a torn paper autumn leaf. You can find the instructions here: http://totsandme.blogspot.com/2018/10/littles-learning-link-up-october-9-2018.html
This is a great activity to help your child with tearing and gluing skills, as well as scissor skills if you have them cut out the leaf.
