Happy Wednesday everyone! It is a rainy day, so we were virtual for our flower story time today. Our craft for this week is a super cool flower mandala! Go outside with your little ones and have them pick a couple of flowers. Then let the magic and creativity begin! Can’t make it in for the supplies, check out the link here for instructions: https://nurturestore.co.uk/flower-mandala-designs-for-children
For story time today, we read stories about flowers, planting, bees, and pollination. We read “Bee” by Britta Teckentrup and “Bloom” by Deborah Diesen. We also looked at the beautiful different types of flowers in “Planting a Rainbow” by Lois Ehlert.
Our Flannel Board rhyme today was 5 Little Ladybugs.
Songs:
Way Up in the Sky
Way up in the sky, the little birds fly
while down in the nest, the little birds rest.
With a wing on the left, and a wing on the right
the little birds sleep all through the night.
Shhhhh! They’re sleeping!
The bright sun comes up, the dew falls away.
Good morning! Good morning! The little birds say.
Plants
The farmer plants the seeds
The farmer plants the seeds
Hi, ho the derry-o
The farmer plants the seeds
The rain begins to fall
The sun begins to shine
The plants begin to grow
The buds all open up
The flowers smile at me
Activity Idea:
Take some time this week to go on a family walk. Look around as you walk and notice all the colors around you. See if you can find a rainbow of colors on your walk. Look at the different shades of each color. Talk about “lighter” and “darker” with your children. See if they can count how many of one color they can find in one area. There are so many learning opportunities out in nature! Don’t forget to check out our Facebook Group: MPL Little Learners for more activity ideas!
