Happy Wednesday and Snow Day friends! It is a beautiful winter wonderland today!
Snow/Hibernation
This week we talked about snow and hibernation again. There are so many great books about hibernation, I couldn’t limit it to just one week =) . I also think hibernation is a great topic to talk to your kids about and teach them about. You could spend time talking about each animal and what they do to prepare to hibernate – what kinds of foods they eat, where they hibernate, how long, etc.
Books:
Today we read: The Snowy Nap by Jan Brett and Snack, Snooze, Skedaddle: How Animals Get Ready for Winter by Laura Purdie Salas. The Snowy Nap is another Jan Brett book, so if your child likes The Mitten, it’s very similar with the illustrations – and it has foreshadowing on the pages on the right to show what animal you will meet next. Snack, Snooze, Skedaddle is a non-fiction book that talks about specific animals and how they hibernate. I thought it was a pretty cool book with lots of great information and beautiful illustrations.
Songs:
It’s Snowing
(Tune: Are you sleeping)
It is snowing
It is snowing
All around, all around
Soft and quiet snowflakes
Soft and quiet snowflakes
Not a sound, not a sound.
Snowflakes, Snowflakes Falling Down
(Tune: Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star)
Snowflakes, snowflakes, falling down
Falling, falling to the ground.
Can you catch them on your nose?
Will they fall and touch your toes?
Snowflakes, snowflakes, falling down
Falling, falling to the ground.
Activities:
Today we talked about the Letter “Q”. We discussed what it looks like, how to draw it, what sound it makes, and words that start with it. Here are some activities to continue the learning about the letter Q:
