Gingerbread Men/Women
This week’s topic was all about gingerbread men and women. We talked about what types of cookies everyone enjoys – I enjoy gingerbread occasionally, but I absolutely love Monster Cookies! What about you? What are the favorites in your house?
Books:
Today we read: Catch That Cookie by Hallie Durand and The Gingerbread Man Loose at Christmas by Laura Murray. In Catch That Cookie, Marshall’s class bakes gingerbread men, but he doesn’t believe that they can run and move around. When the time dings, they open the oven and it’s empty! Marshall and his class go on a scavenger hunt to track them down, and while they are looking for the missing cookies, Marshall begins to believe in the magic. In The Gingerbread Man Loose at Christmas, the gingerbread man and his class work together to make gifts and share happiness and joy with others. They make cards, bake cookies, and sing songs for people, ending the story with a big Thank You for their teacher. What fun books to read as we enter the holiday season and start talking about giving thanks for what we have, and the magic that comes with spreading love and joy.
Songs/Rhymes:
Gingerbread Man
Do you know the gingerbread man, the gingerbread man, the gingerbread man?
Do you know the gingerbread man, who ran and ran and ran?
I can run like the gingerbread man, the gingerbread man, the gingerbread man.
I can run like the gingerbread man, now catch me if you can!
Gingerbread Rhyme
Stir a bowl of gingerbread
Smooth and spicy brown.
Roll it with a rolling pin,
Up and up and down.
With a cookie cutter,
Make some little men.
Put them in the oven
‘till half past ten!
Activities:
Today we talked about the letter “O”. We discussed what it looks like, how to draw it, what sound it makes, and words that start with it. Here are some activities to continue the learning about the letter O:
***I have to admit – I had a hard time finding and thinking of activities that start with the letter O!! If you have any additional ideas, feel free to comment and let me know or share with the group in MPL Little Learners on Facebook!
*Open things – a great motor skill to continuously work on is opening things. Give your child a variety of different things to open – jars, tubs, locks, etc.
On Monday, November 30th the Mulvane Public Library will alter its services due to the increase in local Covid cases. Materials will only be available through curbside pickup and computers/printing/fax/notary will only be available by appointment. Although this hinders shelf browsing and gatherings, the goal is to keep patrons and staff safe and healthy so that we can continue to at least offer the basic, essential library services. Remember, you can place item holds online at www.mulvanelibrary.org and/or call 316-777-1211 for additional assistance or to book computer appointments. We apologize for any inconvenience, but again, everyone’s health and safety is our priority.
