We are making pet-inspired watercolor signs. These would be beautiful added to a frame for personal decor – or as a great gift for a friend that is obsessed with their pet! DIY Monday is Monday, July 12th at 6:30 pm. We are meeting outside unless raining – in which case we will move inside where masks will be required.
T-shirt Fundraiser!
Our Assistant Director, Elizabeth, is currently receiving treatment for Guillian Barre Syndrome. To help support her and her family during this trying time, we are having a library t-shirt fundraiser to help raise money for her treatment. Elizabeth does so much at the library for the staff and the community – we definitely feel her absence! If you would like to order a shirt, please stop by the library to place an order. There is a Gildan brand shirt for $20 and a Bella shirt (softer material) for $25. Both shirts have the “I Judge People by Their Bookshelf” logo, pictured in the flyer. The shirts will be navy blue.
To also help, Grant Snider, local author, is donating a signed copy of his book, I Will Judge You by Your Bookshelf. You can enter to win the book by purchasing raffle tickets. Each ticket is $1.
July Book Clubs!
We have a lot of great book club picks this month! Stop by the Library to pick up a copy or put it on hold!
Non-Fiction Book Club:
Think Like a Freak by Steven D. Levitt and Stephan J. Dubner is our July Non-Fiction Book. This book club meets entirely online in our Non-Fiction Readers Facebook Group. You can pick up a copy of the book at the Mulvane Public Library.
TikTok Book Club is for teens. Teens can post their reactions to Instagram or TikTok and tag the library their reaction at @mulvanelib. This month our July pick is What Big Teeth by Rose Szabo. It is about a girl whose family is werewolves and witches and the main character is desperately trying to keep them together. The book is weird, a little creepy, and has an enchanting gothic feel to it.
Books with Bite is a book discussion group that meets at different restaurants in the community each month. This month we are meeting at The Grill on Thursday, July 8th @ 6:30 pm. We are reading The Glass Hotel by Emily St. John Mandel. She wrote Station Eleven, which was the Big Read book in 2019. Copies are available at the library.
Fiction and Friends will meet on Thursday, July 22nd at 6:30 pm at the library. MaeBeth will be on vacation, so Maggie will be hosting this book club. We are reading The Kitchen Front by Jennifer Ryan. This book takes place in WW2 and it is about four women who are competing in a cooking contest to inspire families on how to cook with their rations. Copies of the books are available at the library.
